Know and understand the basics of spread betting by reading our guide below and you will learn how to make your bets more profitable. You’ll be surprised how profitable and interesting LoL spread betting is!
Sports Betting Point Spread Explained
Spread betting in eSports refers to the type of betting that teams in a one-sided competition have an advantage or disadvantage. Compared to fixed odds betting, spread betting rewards the correct bettor with a larger profit payout if they know what they are betting on.
What Is Sports Spread Betting
Spread Bets use a plus (+) and minus (-) system to indicate which teams are underdogs and favorites – which then determines which bets are advantageous and disadvantageous.
In League of Legends, there can be matches where one team easily defeats the other, making them the clear favorites. Because it can be boring to go for a clear winner, spread betting will give the underdog a foothold. Therefore, for a winning bet on the favorite team to make a profit, that team must win immediately without giving the other team a chance.
Handicap betting and spread betting are synonymous terms in League of Legends. Like the handicap, underdogs get extra points added to their betting score to give them some leverage, while favorites have their score deducted.
Most American eSports betting sites use the word “spread”, while others in Europe use “coordinates”. They essentially work the same way and use the same positive and negative indicators. If you are still confused, you can check out some examples below to illustrate.
Sports Gambling 101: What Is Buying Points?
Imagine a bet between Cloud9 and Team SoloMid for the Map 1 team to have the most kills +6.50. Team SoloMid is the underdog in this match (labeled as Team SoloMid+6.50), while Cloud9 is the favorite (labeled as Cloud9 -6.50).
If you bet Cloud9 -6.50 to win, they need to dominate Team SoloMid in kills. The final team’s kill count will be subtracted by 6.50 and the resulting number must be greater than SoloMid’s total kill count.
If you bet Team SoloMid +6.50, they must not drop 7 kills or more below Cloud9’s final tally. TSM’s final kill count as the underdog will have 6.5 more kills due to the handicap.
Due to the winning conditions of each bet, if the result shows Cloud9 vs. TSM by 21-10, the Cloud9 bet wins the spread. If the result instead shows Cloud9 versus TSM 21-15, the TSM bet wins.
Spread Betting: What It Is & How It Works
Imagine a best of three LPL match between JD Gaming and Victory Five for the Match Winner +1.50 market. JD Gaming is the favorite (indicated as JD Gaming -1.50) and Victory Five is the underdog (indicated as Victory Five +1.50).
As in example 1, the final score of the favorite team is low, and 1.5 points are awarded to the underdog.
In this situation, -1.50 handicap means that the favorite team must win at least 1.5 games for the bet to win. On the other hand, +1.50 handicap means that the underdog wins the match or loses less than 1.5 games.
For betting JD Gaming -1.50 to win, their team must win 2-0 as they are favorites. If they lose once and get 2-1 in favor of JD Gaming, then five wins +1.50 becomes a winning bet. Five wins +1.50 can still win if they get 2-0 or 2-1 in their favour.
How To Bet On Soccer: A Beginner’s Guide To Odds, Spreads, Props, Futures And Statistics
Consider the last five best mid-season invitationals between T1 and 100 Thieves for +2.50 market winner of the competition. In this situation, T1 is the favorite team and 100 Thieves is the underdog.
Again, the way the spread works in this market is that the underdogs earn +2.50 on their score, while the same amount is taken from the score of the favorite team.
For a successful T1 -2.50 bet, T1 must achieve at least 2.5 wins over 100 Thieves in the best of five matches. In other words, T1 must make a 3-0 sweep for this side of the bet to win. A score of 3-1 or 3-2 will not count as a win for T1, even if they win the overall match.
While T1 is under pressure to not give up anything, Thief 100 still has to deal with the game from T1. However, 100 Thieves only needs one win to complete the bet.
Nba Point Spread Betting Guide
LoL spread betting can be difficult to grasp at first, but this guide should cover all the basics you need before trying your first spread. Good luck, get out there and start making money! A little -110 next to the bet you want in the sports book? It may be old hat to seasoned US sports bettors, but it’s not what most people around the world see and may not make sense to most new bettors.
That’s because this model is called American odds and is only used in the United States. Decimal ratios and fractions are very common around the world.
American betting is focused on winning or betting $100 on a particular bet, although you don’t have to bet $100. It scales up and down depending on the amount of the bet.
So, if you bet the Yankees at -130, you have to risk $130 and you will win $100 if New York wins the game (plus the original $130).
How To Read Odds: 13 Steps (with Pictures)
So, if you bet the Red Sox at +120, you risk $100 and win $120 if Boston wins the game (plus your original $100 back).
It may be easier to think in dollars instead of $100. So for every $1.30 you risk on the Yankees in this game, you win $1. For every dollar bet on the Red Sox, you’ll win $1.20.
Ohio State is a recognized strong team in this game, so the Buckeyes are DraftKings’ favorites. Based on these odds, Ohio State is expected to win about 70% of the time.
To bet Ohio State -250 to win, you have to risk $2.50 for every $1 you want to win. Remember, OSU just wants to win the game.
What Do The + And
Since the money line only requires you to pick a winner, we only need odds. We do not need a point spread or a line of any kind.
The second way that American odds are used is next to the corresponding line, such as the point spread or over/under.
The odds determine how much you have to risk, but not what must happen to win the bet.
You only have to risk $1.10 for every $1 you want to win when betting Ohio State -6.5, but they must win the game by at least 7 points.
Point Spread Betting Explained
Same goes for Penn State +6.5 – you only risk $1.10 for every $1 you want to win. If the Nittany Lions lose 1-6 points or win the game, you win the bet.
Most of the time, football and basketball spreads will be -110 – only a fee of 10% of your bet – because the spread makes things even.
For low-scoring sports, the point difference will be low (often -1.5), but the odds for each side will be different because it is more difficult for baseball, football or hockey teams to win with more goals.
For example, you can be paid +150 betting Yankees -1.5 against the Red Sox and have to risk -200 for the Red Sox +1.5 in the same game.
Sports Betting In Massachusetts, Explained
Decimal Odds: Total return for every dollar risked (including that dollar). Anything over 2.0 means the team or player is in surplus; Anything below 2.0 and it’s red money.
So if the Jets are 2.5 on the money line to the Bills, you will return $2.50 for every dollar bet, a profit of $1.5 (since that original $1 is included in your return).
Risking $2.50 for every $1 you want to win in Ohio doesn’t seem fair when you’re only paying $2 for every $1 you want to risk in Penn State.
This gap in the odds is what is called water or strong – it is essentially the fee that the sportsbook will charge you to perform.
Sports Gambling 101: What Are Alternate Lines?
Over thousands of bets, this fee increases and makes it difficult for most bettors to become profitable.
Over time, calculating how much -120 returns when you risk $60 (that’s $50) will become second nature. And sportsbooks from PointsBet to FanDuel always calculate your bets automatically. You can also use our odds converter.
But if you want to calculate the amount of the bet yourself, here is the simple math.
There are two ways to calculate each one – based on how much you want to bet or how much you want to win.
What Is Point Spread Betting
Let’s say you want to win a $25 bet on the Yankees at -130 – you’re willing to risk a little more money to get $25.
Enter $25 as the winning amount and -130 as the payline in the following formula. You will end up with $32.50, which means you have to risk a lot to win $25.
The method required No. 2: The second method is to calculate the method
