In this project, I built an Arduino-based light tracking robot. I used an Arduino UNO as the brain of this robot. I have attached the Arduino code to this article to help instruct the robot to follow the light source and move towards it.

Light Following Robot

I used the L293d engine starter module to control the engine speed. There are many motor drivers available in the market, but I personally like this one because it is easy to install with Arduino UNO, it has 4 separate ports for 4 motors and it has many additional expansion ports like 5V pins, GND pins and analog pins etc. . .

Since this is a light tracking robot, our basic requirement is to follow light, right? and I found LDR to be the best solution for this. But we can’t directly connect LDR resistor to Arduino or motor driver. We need to make a compatible circuit for it, and in this condition I found a solution for the LDR sensor module, which is very cheap and very easy to connect to the Arduino board.

Our first step will be to make the body of the robot. So here you need to build a DIY chassis and assemble the TT gear motor with the robot chassis. This is what it looks like in my case…

Now we assemble all the parts with the PCB. I created a PCB file to make assembly easier and ordered the PCB from JLCPCB. They are very professional in PCB manufacturing and the build time was short. I received the product within 7 working days.

Once we received the PCB, we were able to assemble all the parts properly in less than 2 minutes.

Now I had to upload the code to the Arduino UNO. So I plugged in the USB cable that came with the Arduino UNO board and followed the steps below

***Before uploading the schematic/code, remember to remove/dismount and remove the yellow jumper cap from the motor driver. Reconnect after successfully loading the code.

In this part, I assemble all the parts, such as the wheels, chassis housing, and insert the 18650 Li-ion battery into the battery holder.

FROM. The programmer is not responding: If you are facing this error, it might be caused by the engine driver. Be sure to remove or remove the yellow motor drive cover before uploading the code, then reconnect it when you’re done uploading.

B. Motor does not rotate in the correct direction: If you encounter this problem, you do not need to change the codes. Only the motor wiring needs to be replaced. I can simply say connect the motor to the motor driver

C. Does not follow the lamp or does not work before applying the lamp: This occurs when the LDR sensor modules are not properly calibrated. Place the lamps on the sensor and calibrate them by turning the potentiometer connected to them. In this tutorial, we will build a luxury robot that moves towards brightly lit areas. We will use photoresistors to determine the light intensity. For better understanding, see the following line of robot, surveillance robot car, obstacle avoidance robot we created earlier.

The photoresistor or photocell is a light-dependent resistor (LDR). It works like traditional resistors, but reacts to the amount of light detected. Using this feature of LDR, we will build our robot using Arduino, LDR module and L298N motor control module. So let’s get started and build this robot.

LDR stands for Light Dependent Resistor. LDRs are tiny light-sensing devices, also known as photoresistors. It has two terminals. An LDR is a resistor whose resistance changes depending on the amount of light falling on it. The resistance of these LDRs decreases with increasing light intensity and vice versa. This property allows us to use them to build circuits for light sensing and many other applications.

The LDR sensor module is a digital sensor as well as an analog sensor module that can detect light intensity. This sensor module is also called a photoresistor sensor module. This module has a built-in LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) which helps in detecting light. This sensor module has 4 connectors. The “DO” pin is a digital output pin and the “AO” pin is an analog output pin. The output of the module goes high in the absence of light, and decreases in the presence of light. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted with the potentiometer on the board.

For the L298N motor drive module, the motors are connected to the motor terminals of the motor drive module. The motor drive has 3 more terminals, one of which is 12 V connected to the battery. The GND terminal is connected to the negative terminal of the battery and also to the GND pin of the Arduino board, and the 5V to the 5V of the Arduino board.

To do this, change the engine speed in the code. Note that 1 is the minimum value and 255 is the maximum speed.

Try replacing the batteries. Make sure you need to supply 12V to the L298 motor control module. A voltage lower than this does not work.

Make sure the circuit you build matches the circuit diagram. Check for loose connections. Check the motor connections. Hey, in this article I will guide you to make an Arduino Light Following Robot. This is very easy to make (for beginners)
