How To Choose The Right Personal Injury Solicitor
For qualified degrees (KLDs) and exempted degrees (ELDs), such as our LLB, you must complete, commence, accept an offer or pay a non-refundable deposit by 21 September 2021.
In most cases, for KLD, ELD and CPE, the course concerned must start by 31 December 2021 at the latest.
If you have already started a qualifying degree, GDL or training contract, there are transitional arrangements available until 31 December 2032 to qualify as a representative under the current guidelines, as long as courses are still available.

The SKE is the central examination for anyone wishing to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales. It’s part of a new, four-step process to become a lawyer, introduced in 2021. To qualify using the SKE method, you will need to:
In SKE1 you will be tested on ‘practical legal knowledge’ which tests your use of factual client-based situations in multiple choice questions. Grades will cover subjects you will study on degrees or conversion courses, as well as apprenticeships at Level 1 of the former LPC pathway. There will be two long multiple choice papers of 180 questions each, covering all aspects of the SKE1 syllabus. You must pass SKE1 before you are eligible to take the SKE2 test.

SKE1 and SKE2 are standardized tests delivered by the SRA and are not assessed by the University. This test is an essential requirement to become a solicitor in England and Wales. The LPC is a self-examination course established by the University and approved by the SRA.
There is no specific SKE course as such, but there are important topics that you will need to study to pass the tests. We offer a range of SKE courses to prepare you for the SKE exam and your future career as a lawyer.
During the transition between the LPC and the SKE, there are a number of criteria that will determine whether you need to pass the SKE examination to qualify as a solicitor, or whether you can still sit on the LPC.

No, if you choose to qualify as a solicitor through the SKE route, you will not need to complete a training contract. However, you will have to complete two years of KVE instead.
Uk Bar Exam Structure, Contents, And Requirements
Under the new system, you will need to complete at least two years of KVE to become a lawyer.
The KVE is similar to a training contract and can be completed at any time during the qualification process (although most students are expected to complete this after SKE1).
KVE can be completed for up to four different legal employers. The type of work that qualifies as a KVE includes work placement while studying for your degree, time spent as a lawyer or working in a clinic, as well as working for a period of two years at a firm.
All KVEs are signed by the employer’s legal representative, who must be a lawyer and usually a compliance officer.

If you have already completed part of the required KVE, for example by placing a Pro Bono, it will be up to the independent firms to decide how they will accept your previous work experience. Once you have earned your KVE from a firm, you may need to complete two full years of KVE with them, if that is what they want to practice with the company.

You can book your valuation directly with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). To apply for one of our SKE courses, visit the page of the course you are interested in.
In addition to tuition fees, students will pay for exams directly to the SRA. The current total cost of taking both SKE tests will be £4,115.
Did You Qualify As A Solicitor During The Pandemic?
If you fail both FLK1 and FLK2, you will pay the full SKE1 fee of £1,622 to re-sit both exams.
If you fail SKE2, you will have to pay the full amount of £2,493 to re-sit the exam.
Oh yeah. If you have chosen to study the LPC during the transition period, you will be able to take the SKE exams at a later date if you wish. Although this may not be necessary if you pass the LPC as you can continue to qualify under the current system.
If you have chosen to study a GDL or MA, you will be able to choose either path upon completion of your programme.
