We used 4″ x 4″ pressure treated lumber for the rail bases. We decided to build all the bars 42″ high, but cut the posts 8″ longer than that. This was so we could sink the columns into the table top. Tony cut a 3.5″ by 3.5″ hole in the floorboards (because the wood is actually smaller than his name), taped the posts into the hole, and then attached the deck to the joists making sure they were level on both sides.
Once the posts were installed, I pressure treated 2″ x 4″ s to the top and bottom rails. The top rails correspond to the top of the columns, and the bottom rails
