What I love about OpenCart is its simple and intuitive backend management interface. In addition, there are many companies and independent developers actively working on website templates, themes and plugins.
The downside of OpenCart is that if you want additional functionality that OpenCart doesn’t provide out of the box, you’ll need to purchase and install your own plugins.
Also, OpenCart isn’t as popular as WooCommerce, so it has less developer support and no free plugins available.
But overall, the out-of-the-box features should be more than enough for most users, and the cart is fast.

The main drawback of using an open source platform is that you are the boss and controlling your platform is a double-edged sword.
For example, I need to manage servers. The site should not go down. You should keep your shopping cart up to date. Also, if something goes wrong, you are responsible for finding a solution.
In other words, you need to be resourceful. You must be a good problem solver. Because in the end something goes wrong.
Over the years, we’ve realized that using open source ecommerce solutions and self-hosting may not be the right solution for everyone. Some people don’t feel comfortable installing and tweaking his own website, or modifying an open source shopping cart.
