How Do You Option Trade On Robinhood – Robinhood was created with the goal of democratizing finance for everyone, no matter where they are. This means creating new products, services and educational tools for our beginner and advanced clients to help them make better choices about how to manage their money and achieve their financial goals.
That’s why we’re announcing that trading options on cash accounts are now available to all Robinhood customers. This is one of the most requested features from our advanced customers and builds on the work we’ve already done this year to improve the shopping experience (more on that below).

With a cash account, customers can only use deposited or debited cash for transactions. As a result, FINRA* pattern day trading rules, which limit the number of daily trades a customer can make on a five-day margin account, no longer apply. This means advanced cash account clients can trade their stocks, ETFs and daily trading calculations without worrying about them. You can read more about the differences between Robinhood account types here.

Margin trading involves interest charges and risks, including the possibility of losing more than the amount deposited or pledging additional collateral to a bearish market. Before using margin, clients should determine whether this type of trading strategy is appropriate for them, given their specific investment objectives, experience, risk tolerance and financial situation. Investors should carefully consider their investment objectives and the unique risk profile of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) before investing. ETFs are subject to the same risks as other diversified portfolios. Average and inverse ETFs may not be suitable for all investors and may be subject to volatility through the use of leverage, short selling securities, derivatives and other sophisticated investment strategies.
Although ETFs are generally designed to provide investment results consistent with the performance of their respective underlying indices, they may not accurately replicate the performance of indices due to expenses and other factors. The prospectus contains this and other information about the ETF and should be read carefully before investing. Customers should contact the publishers and/or third party agents who distribute the newsletters and make them available for review. ETFs must distribute portfolio income to shareholders at the end of the year. These returns may arise due to the need to meet portfolio rebalancing or diversification requirements. ETF transactions also have tax implications. Additional regulatory guidance for Exchange Traded Products can be found here.
Options trading can involve a high degree of risk. For more information about the risks associated with options trading, see our options disclosure document, Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options, available here or at https://www.theocc.com/about/publications/character-risks.jsp.
