Good news for veterans: Military experience is also important for this requirement, so if you’re a veteran, download the Florida Military Waiver and Verification of Military Service form. Depending on your experience, your application may be expedited.
And yes, you read that right – as a veteran, you don’t have to pay a fee to get your Florida contractor’s license!
How To Obtain A Contractor’s License In Florida
When you apply for your license, you will be asked to provide personal credit reports and a credit report for your business (if applicable). Generally, you need a credit score of 660 or higher to show that your business is financially stable. If you have a low credit score, you may need a loan.
The Contractor’s Licensing Board only accepts credit reports, so check out this list of providers that may be able to give you what you’re looking for.
To obtain a Florida contractor’s license, you must provide proof of insurance (including workers’ compensation insurance, if you have employees).
By law, Florida contractors must have at least $300,000 in debt. You may also need to show proof that you hold a building permit.

You can apply by calling (407) 264-0562 or online to register for the exam. You will need to pay two fees to take this exam: a $135 registration fee (paid for a professional exam) and an $80 administration fee.

If you pass your test before August 31, 2019, your license fee is $249. If you pass the exam and submit your license after August 31, 2019, the estimated fee is $149.
